The promise of the WNHDEB111 is not fulfilled due to the limitations imposed by Netgear and by the 5Ghz band used for Wireless N signal.In my application, base unit on the second floor is only provided with a fast ethernet input, so the lack of a Gigabit port is a design limit. Add to that the nature of signal dilution, and the available wireless signal from the upstairs location barely allows even Wireless G speeds.As an introduction to Wireless N capabilities, this has been a disappointment, since I cannot locate the base unit where the signal is not forced to pass through walls, and there is no external antenna output on the unit to add an external antenna to overcome the limitations.Be sure you have an unrestricted signal path if you are going to connect your laptop via this unit, or you will be sorry you didn't get a cheaper 2.4Ghz G or N access point.
The configuration menus are fairly straight forward and logical. This matched pair worked perfectly out of the box. I used the advanced setup (manual configuration) as I was wirelessly linking two network segments in my business. I very quickly had a link which has proved more consistant and noticably faster than my previous Wireless-G setup. These units have done everything I asked for, have survived the first two electrical storms of the season and were fairly inexpensive.
The range is horrible and can barely go 20 feet away from each other, it constantly drops the connection, in 1 hour of testing it dropped 4 times. I would rate it 1 star but it gets 2 because it is a decent product for some setups.
Increased frequencies throughout computers in my house. Sets up easily-quickly. I noticed improvement.I also tried going online via Playstion 3.This works better than Linkys. I am not mechanical but have computer experience. My daughter likes this as she is into gaming. I If you are a gamer this product will do what it says and improve your connections throughout the home system. A good addition to your home system.
Then there's the bonus of having an extra Ethernet port for another game console, or PC. I'm not going to bore anyone with too many details. but this wireless-N bundle works like a charm for our Xbox 360. This is a well conceived item with incredible speed, and it just works. Kudos to Netgear.
